New House Bunnies

Kaidyn was given some very special buddies for her house.

"Thank you so much Leigha for my new house bunnies, I love them!" --- Love Kaidyn

Results...

So, today we received the results of some of Kaidyn's tests. But first, an update. Little has changed over the past few days. She is still having to receive more oxygen from her ventilator and her blood pressure still dips low so they have started her medicine back. As for the results of the test; her test for the infection was negative but, one of her labs were high and there were some white blood cells in one of her cultures so the doctor thinks she may have slight pneumonia. So, although the test have been negative and they can't say for sure that she has pneumonia, they are going to treat her with antibiotics for seven days to be on the safe side. Now for her heart test, Kaidyn does have a murmur. Right now it is a small one resulting from a valve that is open in all newborns at birth, but for term newborns it closes within hours on its own. Since Kaidyn is a preemie the closure does not happen. So for now they are keeping an eye on it. If it grows, they will proceed as necessary. The doctor thinks that the murmur is what is causing her to need more oxygen and her blood pressure to be low. So all in all not the best news but not horrible news either. We all knew Kaidyn would have a journey ahead of her. She is being such a strong little girl and I pray for her strength to increase daily.

Many Thanks!

Eric and I want to let everyone know that we truly appreciate your presence today. We were not expecting so many people but it touched our hearts to see how many people came to show their love not only for us, but for Kaiya. Words cannot express how we felt to see so many people there today. Thank you so much.

Always remember Kaiya Dawn Walker for she gave her life to save her sisters. We know that Kaidyn will always have a special angel watching over her.

The Honeymoon is Over

(She must want to go see "This is it" she's got some MJ going on there :) )
Kaidyn is still doing good. She is hanging in there, but she is out of her "honeymoon" stage. As the nurses put it, she is now realizing that she is out in the big world and is having second thoughts. She saying " Ummm.... put me back!!!" So she has had some ups and downs the past few days. They have done yet another test, this one is to see if she has a heart murmur. So we are wait for the results from that and the one to see if she has an infection. A very special moment happened today with Kaidyn. As I was doing her "hands on" (taking her temp, changing her diaper, lube, "teeth brushing" etc.) her nurse decided to go ahead and suction her lungs out (since she can't cough they have to get the yuck stuff out so she can breathe better) so I let her hold my finger and placed my hand over her. I started talking to her and.... HER STATS WENT UP!!! Now, you may be like wow that's good but no, that's GREAT. She hates to be suctioned and her stats drop every time and then take a few minutes to return to normal. So, it was definitely a great ending to such a hard day. Well goodnight all!

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Yesterday started off low for Kaidyn. Her stats were not looking good at all. The amount of oxygen they were giving her had increase tremendously and the nurses look worried. However, the respiratory therapist though her breathing tube may have been the issue so they lowered and sure enough her stats started to increase. She did come off the conventional ventilator and switched to a jet ventilator, which is a step back but I expected it as did the doctor. Her lungs are just not ready for the pressure the conventional ventilator puts on them. Her head scan came back excellent. There are no major bleeds which was such a relief. There is a tiny spot but the doctor thinks its just a blood vessel. She will get another scan next week to see if there has been change. They did take her off the dopamine for her blood pressure but she is now on antibiotics because her chest x-ray was not the best and they want to make sure she doesn't have an infection. We will get the results of that later on. By the end of the day Kaidyn was doing well and resting comfortably on her tummy.

Pictures for Today

You can't really see it but she has a hairy back!!! This was actually from yesterday but whatever.
The nurses added some decor to the inside of her isolette until I bring her some blankets from home.

Since she has been on her tummy she has shown better stats. She's like her Momma, likes to sleep on her stomach. Doesn't she look comfy?

Here's a pic with her eyes open, well about as open as they get for now. She was not very happy with her nurses messing with her.

No Change, Which is a good thing

So, today Kaidyn has had little change. She did have to get another blood transfusion today because her red blood cell levels were still not where the doctor wanted them. They take so much out of her, its hard for her little body to replenish in time. Her stats are still looking good and she is still on a conventional ventilator. We are starting to see that she likes to be on her tummy more than her back or sides, at least for now so she has had lots of time on her tummy. They went ahead and did her head scans today, but I won't know how they look until tomorrow morning so keep praying. I can't believe she is almost a week old. She has done so well, I pray it stays that way. Overall she has been a good girl and has taken all they have given her very well. It amazes me how strong she is even at this tiny age and size.
