The Beginning

I am creating this blog to track the progress of Kaidyn so all who love her can check on her progress. I will try to post daily but will not promise such as I tend to forget. This blog will be an outlet for me as I try to cope with what has happened since "that day" so I won't promise it will always be easy to read. Forgive me now for typos, its hard enough to write down my feelings I just can't bear to re-read them to check for errors. Here is how everything has gone since October 21, 2009 when my world, and the world of my twin girls, changed forever.

On October 21st I was laying down watching T.V. when Kaiya's sac ruptured. I went to St. Joseph's Hospital that night but was sent home. On Oct. 22nd I went to see my doctor and was told her sac had ruptured and that I would be transferred to Scott & White in Temple. From there I was transferred to the Temple hospital where it was confirmed that my sac had indeed broke and Kaiya could be born at any time. Kaiya Dawn Walker was delivered on Oct. 23rd at 1:43pm. She weighed 1 lb 1oz and was 10 in long. Due to her small size and age of gestation (23 weeks 5 days) we decided that it would be best for her to let her go and be with the Lord. She passed away Oct 23rd at 2:32pm, 49 min after she was born. Kaiya's sac ruptured due to infection. Since Kaiya and Kaidyn were in separate sacs they were able to deliver only Kaiya allowing Kaidyn to stay in the womb until she could better handle to world outside. Kaiya will always be our first little girl. We miss her terribly and I wish I could say it gets easier by the day, it doesn't. It's still hard to believe my little girl is gone but I like to think she did what was best allowing us to save her sister. I know this was all in God's plan but that doesn't make it easier for me or Eric to deal with this fact.

Kaidyn Jamiel Walker was delivered on Oct. 29, 2009 at 10:57pm 6 days after her sister was born. She weighs 1lb 4oz and is 11in long. She is currently in the NICU at Scott and White Temple hospital. She has been doing very well. Since her birth she has had a blood transfusion and has been switched to a different ventilator which will allow Eric and I to do some skin to skin contact care with her. When she was first born they put all her IV lines through her umbilical cord but she has since had them removed, as they can only be there for a certain time frame. She now has and arterial line in her leg. She has been a very strong girl and is doing better than they expected. So far so good.

Please continue to pray for her daily. Any time you pray, before bed, before you eat, whenever please remember to pray for strength and the strength of her parents. It has been extremely hard to grieve for one child and stay strong for the other. I know God has this all worked out, and I know he will guide Kaidyn through this journey. She will be in the NICU until about her due date which Feb. 16th so she has a long road ahead of her, we all do, so much prayer is needed.

I am currently staying here in Temple at the Ronald McDonald house so it will take a little bit to get pictures posted of Kaiya and Kaidyn but as soon as I can I will.

So now begins our journey and I will keep all those who want to follow updated as I can.

God bless.
